Cheesy titles aside, after Snetterton when we were packing up Mo came to talk to me about exhausts after my Janspeed failings. He suggested one of his racing exhausts which give good power and are significantly lighter, and cheap too. The weight was something I noticed with the Janspeed when we fitted it and added quite a lot to the car and in the wrong place too. I knew one of Mo’s ‘racing exhausts’ were actually standard exhausts with the heavy back box cut off, but they are incredibly light and his cars seem to work really well with them. It would be the same as the exhaust that was originally fitted to the car but without all the holes in, which I can see probably wasn’t helping matters.
I mulled it over and called Mo a few days later to arrange things. In the conversation we also got onto the subject of handling and how the car was understeering a lot in the chicane at Snetterton which it shouldn’t be doing. Within a few minutes my trip for a new exhaust had turned into an exhaust, suspension geometry and an engine tune up. At least it should go well at Castle Combe!
